Who would you vote for?

Sunday Abraham Robert C. Bobb Carolyn Graham Timothy Jenkins Laurent Ross
School Board Presidential Candidate Carolyn Graham's responses:
Why are you seeking election to the Washington DC School Board?
1) I believe in the spirit and ability of our children to succeed and become world class learners; 2) I believe in the public's right to control public education.

What are your qualifications for the position you seek?
I have served as the Board's vice president for the past 18-months, have been intimately involved in the policies associated with the Master Education Plan, the Master Facility Plan, the reduction of 1M square feet of excess space from our schools, conducted a study on special education, worked with METRO Teen Aids to develop new health policies for jr. high and high schools.

Served as the city's first deputy mayor for children, youth, families and elders; Director of Human Services, Broward County, FL; National Director, council services, Girl Scouts of the USA; and director, DC State Health Planning and Development Agency.

In your opinion what are the five major issues facing the Washington DC School System?
  • Eliminating the achievement gap
  • Special Education costs
  • Quality of School Facilities
  • Lack of vocational education options
  • Professional development of staff
Who or what is to blame?
The residents of the District of Columbia. School systems thrive when communities are involved and committed to the development of children.
What is your opinion of mayoral candidate Adrian M. Fenty's position that the elected Washington DC School Board be converted to an appointed advisory panel?
I look forward to working with Mr Fenty to advance programs associated with improving the outcomes of our children. My hope is that we will not spend an inordinate amount of time trying to decide who the superintendent reports to.
Do you have a web site for your candidacy?
Yes, the address is www.carolyngraham.com
