Vote 2006 Presents 2006 Washington DC Board of Education President Candidates
Who would you vote for?

Sunday Abraham Robert C. Bobb Carolyn Graham Timothy Jenkins Laurent Ross
School Board Presidential Candidate Sunday Abraham's' responses:
Why are you seeking election to the Washington DC School Board?
I have been bringing educational issues before the Board for years; I have received verbal thanks but there has been NO attempt to implement even one of my suggestions for betterment. There are rationalizations about the failures to implement. I will seek to implement these past suggestions; i.e. nutrition, civic education, physical education, arts & crafts, history, evolution & special creation, Bible curriculum, sexuality, slavery, our heritage, terrorism, school choice, Pledge of Allegiance, etc. I also hope to encourage the implementation of positive programs, which assist our teachers in their career developments and their retention in our system.

What are your qualifications for the position you seek?
I am certified to teach science Kgn-12th grades; I have taught science Kgn-12th grades, math & social studies 7th & 8th grades in public schools and birth - 8th grades in Sunday School.

For the past eight years I have worked as a Tax-aide. And I have worked as a letter-writing advocate/activist for years. My primary qualification is neither advanced educational credits nor prior experience but the awareness that there are problems that must be addressed, willingness to learn, and the determination to make conditions better. I.e., I have originality, creativity, and the audacity to advance education.

In your opinion what are the five major issues facing the Washington DC School System?
  • NUTRITIOUS MEALS - coupled with nutritional education program.
  • PHYSICAL EDUCATION - physical activity assists in academic development.
  • LITTLE OR NO ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT
  • Non-COMMUNITY FRIENDLY SCHOOLS
  • BUILDINGS IN DISREPAIR - asbestos & lead pipe removals are vital.
Who or what is to blame?
We are ALL to blame for the chaos in our school system. Has the Washington Post or any of our other area newspapers focused on the issues so that we the public knew what the problems were? Have the parents and/or students brought the issues to the monthly public hearings?
What is your opinion of mayoral candidate Adrian M. Fenty's position that the elected Washington DC School Board be converted to an appointed advisory panel?
Democratic mayoral nominee Adrian M. FENTY should have run for School Board President if he wanted to take direct control of the District schools! Past administrators created our problems; we need educators on the Board. Whatever my Board position is, I WILL CONTINUE to daily help to improve the performance in our schools. I intend to visit every school and meet every administrator before my first year in office. I will cite positive activities, make recommendations, and ask for improvements. Secondly, I will attempt to set-up a computer program to track each student's progress vice grade-level progress tracking!
Do you have a web site for your candidacy?
No.
