Vote 2006 Presents 2006 Candidates for
Washington DC Board of Education District IV Member
Who would you vote for?

Jackie Pinckney Hackett Jimmy Johnson William Lockridge Jacque D. Patterson Cardell Shelton
School Board District IV Member Candidate Jacque D. Patterson's responses:
Why are you seeking election to the Washington DC School Board?
Public Education in the District of Columbia is in shambles. Parents are losing faith in DCPS and taking their children out. Kids are giving up and dropping out. Buildings are falling apart and money is being wasted. I'm running to do what the incumbent, William Lockridge hasn't done in 8 years, fix public education.

What are your qualifications for the position you seek?
I am a trained and proven manager: I have an undergradute degree in Education, a masters in Public Administration and a master's certificate in Public Management. I bring a set of management skills that have been lacking on the Board of Education.

In your opinion what are the five major issues facing the Washington DC School System?
  • Academic Performance ranks DCPS at the bottom in most areas.
  • Weak Resource Management has resulted in wasted money.
  • Accountability and Oversight has been almost nonexistent.
  • Unable to provide sound School Safety.
  • Inability to fix Special Education.
Who or what is to blame?
A school board that is great at identifying problems and communicating rhetoric, but unable to identify solutions and provide results. At the top of this list is District IV Representative William Lockridge. It's time for a change so our children can have a chance at a quality public education that will prepare them for college or a career.
What is your opinion of mayoral candidate Adrian M. Fenty's position that the elected Washington DC School Board be converted to an appointed advisory panel?
The ability for the parents and citizens to choice who they would like to serve on the School Board should not be taken from them. Whatever reform Mr. Fenty has for public education must have this democratic component. I will fight tooth and nail to ensure that parents have their say in who and how public education is provided for their children.
