Mr. Brannum is a native Washingtonian. He attended J. C. Nalle Elementary School, Kelly Miller Junior High School, and Joel Elias Spingarn High School. He also attended DC Teachers College, majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Because of his interest in public education, Mr. Brannum  testifies regularly before the DC Board of Education and the District of Columbia City Council on public education and other related issues. He also serve as a mentor to several young people in the District of Columbia.
