Vote 2006 Presents 2006 Candidates for
Washington DC Board of Education District III Member
Who would you vote for?

Stephane Baldi Marc Borbely Robert Vinson Brannum Mary Baird-Currie Lisa Raymond
School Board District III Member Candidate Marc Borbely's responses:
Why are you seeking election to the Washington DC School Board?
I have a deep commitment to and belief in democracy. I believe that I can help build a world-class school system by INVOLVING and respecting and asking for help from parents, teachers, students and neighbors.

What are your qualifications for the position you seek?
am a former DCPS teacher (Eastern & Spingarn), a current ANC Commissioner (near Hechinger Mall) and a school activist. I was the leader of the DC School Modernization Campaign. I am an organizer, dedicated to bringing people together for our schools. I have the knowledge, experience and passion needed to help bring about major changes in DCPS.

In your opinion what are the five major issues facing the Washington DC School System?
  • Crumbling buildings that do not serve or respect children.
  • A curriculum that does not speak to children's dreams.
  • A closed structure that shuts out the public.
  • Waste and mismanagement.
  • Top-down governing that ignores parents, teachers, students
Who or what is to blame?
All of us are to blame for allowing this injustice, but especially our leaders.
What is your opinion of mayoral candidate Adrian M. Fenty's position that the elected Washington DC School Board be converted to an appointed advisory panel?
I support a fully elected school board. Elected school board members have the most chance of bringing residents together for our schools.
Do you have a web site for your candidacy?
Yes, the address is http://MarcForSchoolBoard.org
